Delve into the heart of an ancient battleship, defeat its perils and learn its secrets in a race against the clock. A thrilling science-fiction one-shot for the Stars Without Number System. This session is designed to show off the rules and "old-school" attitudes of the game: we will be creating characters on the night, likely multiple times, as the hazardous environment takes its toll. Expect to get through multiple characters.
You will take the part of "volunteers" drafted as part of a global service program. Your task is to salvage and, if possible, commandeer the Gauntlet, or at least recover as much information and other technology as possible. The challenge is steep: between you and success stand the normal hazards of deep-space operations, combined with inscrutable technology, demented security systems, remnants of past disasters, and the ever-increasing risk of solar heat and radiation. But you have been assured that the government has every confidence in your success; yours and the rest of the hapless conscripts you're sharing the ship with.
The Gauntlet is a relic of a brighter past, now centuries gone, when the human Mandate of Terra ruled the galaxy with science so advanced as to seem magical. But a mysterious cataclysm tore that all down in moments, and humanity's scattered children have spent hundreds of years picking up the pieces. Your home planet of Azure has reclaimed much of this technology, but there's still a way to go, and the Gauntlet represents an incredible chance and an incredible challenge.
The rewards are steep, the risks steeper. Your families have been notified, and your preferred funerary rites recorded.
Good luck, volunteer: the Gauntlet awaits.
