This event is hosted by: Blades in the Dark (Group Full Currently)
This is session 0 for a Blades in the Dark campaign I want to run for a group of 3-5 players; that (should) feel like a typical game for the system.
A quick summary of the game: Blades in the Dark is a game in which the players play a group of criminals in a haunted, dystopian fantasy city, with heavy influences from games and worlds such as Dishonored. The players create a crew and perform "scores" which are episodic jobs that are either given or determined by the players, then take the rewards from these scores to further the larger goals and growth of the crew. The game is fast-paced, dramatic, and focused.
If you are new to the system, don't fret! There is an open SRD for basics of the rules, and the most important components of the rules are slim and easy to remember. There will be a few house rules (or rulings, depending on how you look at it), but they are geared towards increasing clarity of the core rules, rather than extending them.
The goal will be to get everyone together for a session 0, in which we go over character creation, crew creation, and determining the starting situation for session 1. We will also go over style and content for the game, using tools such as Lines & Veils and Content checklists to help determine both what shouldn’t be included in the game, as well as if a player wants to be in the game at all.
Blades in the Dark is set in an oppressive, dystopian city in which criminal cycles repeat themselves. The content of the game is expected to reflect that, and certain themes of inequality are as a result are impossible to avoid. By exploring content before beginning play, we get to (hopefully!) see if the game is right for you before embroiling ourselves in the story.
As for how the game will be conducted, I can use Foundry VTT (I own the software and players do not need to pay to connect), or I can conduct the game entirely in a Discord server! The game will mostly be theater of the mind for things like combat, as there isn't a grid-based combat system like many other RPGs. Specifics for where we play will be worked out along with scheduling leading up to session 0.
