Hello! I'm Sean, and I'm a professional Game Master serving the Greater Chicago area. Whether you're a veteran of a thousand dungeon crawls or it's your first time rolling the dice, we have a game night for you!
Coming out of a desire to share community storytelling and gameplay with a wider audience, Carpe DM specializes in introducing new players to the broader community of tabletop roleplaying games, as well as providing personalized campaigns in a variety of systems.
It’s an amazing time for long-time RPG fans like myself - who remember being one of the only people in a city of thousands who enjoyed these games - now watching the wonder and excitement of thousands of new players finding their own adventures for the first time! Carpe DM is here to cultivate that wonder, for every would-be adventuring party that just needed someone to help them start and for every veteran dragon slayer who’s new in town and wants to share in the storytelling again.
We offer introductory games for new players, hosted events like birthday parties and corporate trainings, short-term bespoke campaigns and long-term bespoke campaigns. If you're interested in finding a group or finding a DM for your group, please reach out to me here or by email at email@example.com and we can find the right game night for you!
For myself as a GM, your ideas and interests are the most important guidepost for an engaging game night. I've been running tabletop roleplaying games for well over a decade and have hosted for parties all across the spectrum - from dungeoneers who love cracking puzzles and solving riddles, to sword-happy fighters who live for the phrase "roll initiative"! My own preferences lean towards crafting strange and wondrous environments and NPCs for the players to interact with and engaging everyone at the table in the rolepaly and social aspects of the game, but we'll follow the whole table's interests to build your game together.
The majority of my GM experience is in the Dungeons & Dragons systems (particularly 5e and 3.5), the World of Darkness games, Pathfinder, Starfinder and a wide variety of smaller games like Paranoia, Cyberpunk, and Dread, but I'm perfectly comfortable learning new systems that you and your group are hoping to explore!
Carpe DM was created out of a desire to provide an accessible and quality tabletop gaming experience, and the comfort and engagement of everyone at the table comes first. All new groups begins by establishing our interests, our level of comfort with topics that may arise in play, and reiterating that communication both within and without the game is key for ensuring everyone can do what we all came together for: roll the dice and have a damn good time.
I should really describe my playstyle.
