Player since Basic D&D and GM since AD&D. I've played and run every version of the game except for 4e. For many years I've played and run RPGA games before transitioning to Pathfinder Society and Adventurer's League.
I've also run and played in many indie games such as Fate, Fiasco, Burning Wheel, Blade of the Iron Throne, The Riddle of Steel and many others. So I've got a broad experience with many different style games.
I run a balanced RP/Combat game with pretty strict immersion and lots of conflict. The characters are heroes and I treat them as such. In addition I do my best to give reasons to care about the scenario and significant difficult decisions to make in game. We definitely play to find out what happens as I try to present story hooks that may interest the players, but which one is pursued is up to the players.
I like to run a variety of characters, from the archetypical rogue spy to a muscle bound bruiser and everything in between. Generally I don't do accents, but will occasionally try one one on. My characters tend to be fully fleshed out way beyond just the statistics, but I usually don't write a huge background story ahead of time. That is something that emerges in game. Values, aspirations and motivations inform the characters worldview and my in character decisions on actions to take. One thing that is fairly consistent is that my characters are pretty decisive and dislike long periods of inactivity or discussion of options. "Better to do something now, than the perfect thing 20 minutes too late." is a typical motto.
